FAQs – Porches & Roof Lanterns
Learn about common window and door problems and their solutions.
Do you install porches?
Yes, we design and build beautiful and practical uPVC and brick porches. A new porch adds an extra layer of security and insulation to your home, creates a welcoming entrance, and gives you valuable extra space for coats and shoes.
Do I need planning permission for a porch?
In many cases, no. Porches are often considered a ‘permitted development’ as long as they are below a certain size (no more than 3 square metres in floor area and 3 metres in height). We will advise you on all the regulations as part of our free planning and quote service.
What is a roof lantern?
A roof lantern is a glazed structure, typically made from strong, slimline aluminium, that sits on a flat roof. It’s designed to flood the room below with natural light, creating a bright, airy, and spacious feel.
What are the benefits of a roof lantern?
Roof lanterns are a stunning architectural feature for extensions and kitchens. They bring in three times more natural light than a standard vertical window, can make a room feel larger, and our modern designs are incredibly thermally efficient, keeping the room warm in winter and cool in summer.
Are roof lanterns secure?
Yes, they are very secure. They are built with toughened safety glass and are fixed securely to the roof structure from the inside, meaning there are no external fixings that could be tampered with.
