FAQs – Regulations & Guarantees
Learn about common window and door problems and their solutions.
Do I need planning permission to replace my windows?
In most cases, no. Replacing windows and doors is normally considered ‘Permitted Development’. The main exceptions are for listed buildings and properties in conservation areas, where special rules apply.
Are you FENSA registered?
Yes, we are. Assured is a government-authorised scheme that monitors building regulation compliance for the window and door industry. This ensures that our work is regularly assessed and meets all the required legal and technical standards.
What is a FENSA certificate and why do I need one?
An Assured certificate is your official proof that your new windows and doors have been installed in compliance with Building Regulations and are registered with your local council. You will be asked for this certificate if you ever sell your home.
What guarantee do you offer on your products?
We stand by the quality of our products and workmanship. At KMJ Windows & Doors Ltd, we offer a comprehensive 10 year guarantee on all our products. Full details will be in your quote.
What is an insurance-backed guarantee?
This is an extra layer of protection for you. It’s a policy that underwrites our company guarantee, so in the unlikely event that we cease trading, your guarantee will still be honoured.
What happens if I have a problem after the installation?
Just give us a call! We pride ourselves on our exceptional customer service and aftercare. If you have any issues covered by your guarantee, our team will be happy to return and put things right for you.
Do my new windows need to have fire escape hinges?
Building regulations require certain windows to serve as a means of fire escape, particularly in first-floor bedrooms. This means they must open to a specific size. We are experts in these regulations and will ensure your new windows are fully compliant and safe.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payment via bank transfer, cash and cheque. Our payment terms are clear and simple: a deposit to secure your order, and the final balance payable only upon satisfactory completion of the installation.
Are your installations compliant with the latest Building Regulations?
Yes, absolutely. As an Assured registered company, our installations always meet the very latest standards for thermal performance, safety, ventilation, and security.
