FAQs – Choosing the Right Products
Learn about common window and door problems and their solutions.
What’s the difference between a composite door and a uPVC door?
A uPVC door is a cost-effective, low-maintenance choice made from a single material. A composite door has a solid, insulating core with a highly durable and realistic woodgrain-effect skin. This makes them stronger, more secure, and more thermally efficient.
Which is better: composite or uPVC doors?
It depends on your priorities. uPVC doors offer fantastic value and performance. Composite doors are the premium choice, offering superior security, energy efficiency, and a high-end aesthetic. For ultimate security, we fit every composite door with a free 3-star cylinder lock.
What are the main window and door materials you offer?
At KMJ Windows & Doors Ltd, we specialise in high-performance uPVC and modern, slimline Aluminium. We also offer the market-leading Composite doors. We do not supply or install timber products.
uPVC vs. Aluminium windows: what should I choose?
uPVC is the most popular choice, offering excellent energy efficiency and value in a wide range of colours. Aluminium offers a stronger, slimmer frame, allowing for larger glass areas and a sleek, contemporary look. Both are fantastic, low-maintenance options.
What is a casement window?
This is the most common window style in the UK. It’s hinged on one side and opens outwards, creating a great seal for excellent weather performance.
What is a sash window?
A sash window (or vertical slider) has two panels that slide up and down to open. Our modern uPVC sash windows give you the classic, elegant look of traditional windows but with all the benefits of modern energy efficiency and low maintenance.
What is a tilt and turn window?
A tilt and turn window is a clever dual-function design. You can turn the handle once to tilt the window inwards from the top for secure ventilation, or turn it 90 degrees further to swing the whole pane inwards for easy cleaning.
Should I choose French doors, patio doors, or bifold doors?
French doors offer a timeless, classic opening. Sliding patio doors are a great space-saver as they don’t swing into your room or garden. Bifold doors provide the ultimate ‘wow’ factor, allowing you to fold back an entire wall of glass to seamlessly link your home and garden.
What colour options do you offer for your windows and doors?
We have a huge selection! Classic White is always popular, but you can also choose from a wide range of solid colours and realistic woodgrain finishes. Modern greys like Anthracite Grey are very popular for both uPVC and Aluminium frames.
Can I have a different colour on the inside and outside?
Yes, you can. This is known as a dual-colour option. For example, you could have a contemporary grey on the outside to match your home’s exterior, with a clean, classic white on the inside to match your interior décor.
